No more extremes...

I have FINALLY escaped the extreme obesity category of BMI's as I now have a BMI of under 40! (Now it is 39.8, but that is UNDER 40!) It is really quite a relief to just be plain old vanilla obese without the extra verbiage of EXTRA, MORBIDLY, SUPER FATTY FAT FAT.

I only lost .4 lbs this week, but I consider that a victory considering the weekend consisted of visiting with my best high school girlfriends away from home at a very nice resort in close proximity to great steakhouses, and P.F. Changs AND Cheesecake Factory. I made better choices, but still completely enjoyed myself with respect to food and drink!

This is the 5th summer that I have gotten together with my girlfriends (just the girls) and we spend quite a bit of time eating, but also shopping. The shopping has been nightmarish for me because my girlfriends...all size medium at the MOST, so they like to peruse the clearance racks at the big department stores and the women's sizes (I now despise being called a woman, fyi) are never in the same place, and let's face it, department stores really like us fatties to wear BOWS, and FLOWERS, and WINNIE THE POOH, so I either had to pretend to look at clothes that would never fit or go browse by myself...both options SUCK.

However, this year I was able to peruse without the "you MUST be shopping for someone else" look plastered on all the sales people. BUT, I was only able to get pajamas while shopping because I am at a weird size...the 1X's were too frumpy, but the XL's were too clingy. I will say, the shopping portions of the weekend were much more fun this year, because I saw lots of cute things that are within reach!!

Next year I will be sure to have shopping money and a shopping ass!

That sounds like a fun weekend with the ladies! I need a girls weekend...

And hooray for easier shopping--I predict next year will be a shopping bonanza for you!

im so happier for your easier shopping! it never occurred to me how awkward group shopping could be if you were a different size. youve enlightened me.

and that you are plain old vanilla obese: congrats!!!

If it makes you feel better, I always hated shopping with friends, even when I fit into XS. I'd rather shop without their commentary and judgmental stares (because they're too scared to say they don't like something). So, kudos to you for subjecting yourself to that kind of torture ... year in and year out ... and actually walking away feeling it was time well spent. You're a better tart than I (wouldn't dare say woman...).

Congrats on the BMI change...although I feel a huge rant coming on regarding BMI in general.

I'm so glad you had fun with your girlfriends - a weekend away with shopping and good eats is such a treat! I know how you feel about having to shop in a different area from them in the past - my last visit (in June) with my best friend was the first time we could shop in the same department in decades! And hey, new jammies are always nice to have - glad you're looking forward to next year's ass - you crack me up!

YAY! Congrats to being plain old vanilla! I don't think you'll be plain old vanilla very long though. You have kicked ass at getting fit this year. It is very inspiring and motivating to me. And I bet Mr. P wouldn't have minded the too clingy PJs. ;) Yay for girls weekends!

Congratulations on all your success. It has to feel great and it has to feel great knowing you had a nice weekend and didn't gain a pound doing it!!!

hooray for you and the under 40 bmi! that rocks! seriously, you've done a fantastic job. i do not clothes shop w/ other people. i hate even clothes shopping w/ the hubs or kids. i need to be alone. i don't think i'd want to shop w/ anyone even if i were skinny though. i think it's funny that you're planning on having a different ass at next year's outing : ) too funny.

"department stores really like us fatties to wear BOWS, and FLOWERS, and WINNIE THE POOH" No kidding! As if being fat isn't punishment enough...

Congrats on the move into "plain old obesity"!

I never went in "boutique" stores in Hoboken, or Manhatten because I was sure the sales people would laugh at me an HOPE I wasn't going to try and wear their fancy size 2 clothes on my size 16 body.

I still can't wear a size 2 but atleast now I don't think they would laugh at me (out loud).

Yay! Under 40! I remember how happy I was to no longer be in certain categories too :)

That sounds like a fun trip! I am happy you were able to enjoy it this time :)

Congratulations on escaping the tyranny of the BMI category! You have now entered the world of "extended sizes." Sizes like 1X and 2X are cut larger all over so if you don't have big arms, big legs, etc., they are too floppy. But "straight sizes" often stop at 14 or 16, and some of us are larger than that. Check out my post on places to shop again. I think the tag is "togs."

Yes, I'm thrilled to find that Fashion Bug now has all clothes in all sizes, from 4-30 or something like that. Now I can shop with all my girlfriends! Fashion Bug is all we've got here - except Herbergers where you can only be overweight if you want to dress like someone's Grandma, and wear polyester double-knit, elastic-waist pants. In lavender.
