um...when is the energy going to hit?

I kick off my Fall semester classes in 42 minutes, and I am doing my absolute best to try to keep focused and awake. I read all over the blogosphere and on the WeightWatcher's site that getting up and exercising before work has all these benefits, namely more energy throughout the day.

Since I am not a morning person anyhoo, I figured, what the hell...I will give it a shot.

So at 5:30 this morning I set out and did a 5K (listening to the audiobook of The Traveler's Wife--which made it go by FAST), came home, packed my yogurt breakfast, took a shower, got ready for work and here at work I sit. waiting. for the energy.

That's an awesome book. I am not going to see the movie, but am now wanting to re-read the book.

Sorry for the lack o' energy. I got up at 4:30 to hit the elliptical. I mean, use the ellipitical. But I wanted to hit it.

I only do it so early so I won't have to think about it when driving home from work at nearly 6 pm, starving, and just wanting to eat dinner and relax.

For me, the energy kicked in after several weeks of getting up early. Hang in there - it will come!

Has it hit yet?

It might take more than a day for your body to adjust to the early workouts, but I'll bet that the burst of energy will arrive soon!

Good luck with your new semester - hope you have a great set of students!

ooh i want to read that book. but not interested in the movie.

sorry about the lack of energy, but i hate mornings too and the morning exercise thing has never done anything for me. even as a kid i had a hard time facing mornings. i just dont feel my best then, exercise or no exercise.

Well, at least you have smugness to call upon. Running a 5K at 5:30 in the morning before your healthy breakfast is quite impressive! I can't even believe I know someone who would do that. I am a strictly after-work gal.

We have one more week until the students invade our nice quiet campus.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have but I giggled when you said 'waiting for the energy', I hope it comes soon, let me know, I never seem to have much energy anymore and your good, your exercising!! I just pop open a can of Diet Pepsi, not the thing to do, I know, but, oh, well, works for me!!

Way to go HP! Me, working out in the morning makes me tired in the morning which is why I work out in the evening. Maybe I'm not working out hard enough (lately not at all) so the energy kick never comes in.

And I love that book! Don't think I'm going to watch the movie unless it gets great reviews.

this working out to audio books sounds like a good idea, though...

I love The Time Traveler's Wife - it's my favorite book, and the audiobook version is awesome. I did see the movie, but as with most movies based on a book, the book is way better.
Good luck with the new semester. Did the energy ever show up?

Hope your first day back was good! I had my first day back at the office today. Many syllabi were written.

I have ALWAYS been perplexed by the "you'll have more energy if you exercise" thing. I feel like exercising USES UP my energy---even when I do it regularly/consistently. But perhaps that is JUST ME.

i want to read that book. i'm on the fence about going to see the movie.
i have always admired people who get up early to exercise. i am sooooo anti mornings there is no way in hell i'd get up to exercise. really. no.way. then again, i do need to get my fat ass in gear and exercise, but it will not be in the mornings.

I may have to get that book - is it good? I need a change from my love Harry Potter on audio.

I'm not a morning exerciser.... well, not an early morning exerciser.... let us know if that energy kicks in!!

I suck at blogging lately because standing at my dresser...I mean chest of drawers is no fun. How is the going green going?

I've read a bunch of similar studies, but it's not for me. I've tried the morning workouts and I always feel depleted of energy. So, I stick with what works for me ... working out after work (which helps me come down from the craziness of the day). Give it a few days, but if it's not working for you, don't worry about it!
